Something About Mary

I am a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) with a Masters in Education and more than 20 years of experience as an educator. My career has been dedicated to empowering individuals through learning, growth, and meaningful change.

My Own Journey

Teacher burnout is a real thing and I learned first-hand the impact stress has on our physical and mental health. First, there was the anxiety “disorder" and the IBS diagnosis (aka signs I was ignoring). At 37, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. At 47, breast cancer. I decided that I needed to finally listen to my body and make significant changes. I was determined that 57 would look very different. Cue music for montage of a new me - setting boundaries, changing what I was putting in and on my body, beginning a meditation practice, joining a local yoga studio, walks in nature, acupuncture, therapy, sleeping (crazy, I know), and ditching all the sources of toxins in my home. Within 3 months, I felt like a different person. I felt good. For the first time in decades, I could honestly say “I feel good.” Until… I returned to work. My body, mind and spirit gave me very clear and immediate feedback that I needed to make a career change.

I listened.

I wanted to help other people discover what I had discovered. So I did my favorite thing - I went back to school. I found an amazing program at The Institute for Sustainable Nutrition. There, I learned the science of nutrition, how to use food as medicine, the fundamentals of organic gardening, and the impact of toxins on ourselves and the environment. It was a yearlong program on a farm taught by two nutritionists, a biologist, and a chef. I was in community with like-minded people. During this time, I worked at a holistic healing center. I witnessed the power of alternative therapies - acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qi Gong, yoga, energy work, nutritional counseling, and massage therapy. The impact I witnessed was nothing short of miraculous.

Time to Make It Official

The next step was gaining the credentials I needed to truly make a difference in the world. I became a certified health coach and functional nutrition expert through mindbodygreen Institute. From there, I went on to earn my NBC-HWC certification, the highest standard for health and wellness coaching. I specialize in helping clients make sustainable changes in their life that improves their overall health and well-being. I use evidence-based practices such as motivational interviewing, appreciative inquiry, and SMART goal setting. I provide clients with the structure, support, and accountability they need to feel empowered to make impactful changes in their lives. I honor their autonomy, resourcefulness, and unique strengths. It is a partnership that moves clients toward the life they envision with clarity, confidence, and resilience. At the heart of my work is compassion and the belief that small, intentional steps can lead to lasting transformation. I know if I can do it, others can too.

Creating a Life I Love

When not at work, I enjoy life with my family, friends and pup in rural New England. My husband and I love growing our own organic food, hosting gatherings, and traveling to beaches near and far. We have an amazing son, who just purchased his first home 10 minutes away. How lucky are we?
